The Day the Sky Forever Adopted Grey

He was there the day the sky forever adopted grey

The sun no longer blazing, he smiled and felt new

She came with rain clouds and thunder

the town ran for cover but he stood

under his weather-proof Patagonia hood

He raised his chin in welcome to the sky

as his arms rest comfortably by his side

Unaffected by the cold, harsh winds

he listened and waited for her to speak

She roared loud and struck a tree

In three pieces it fell not far from his feet

He was not shaken, only took a step back

Eyes wide and aware,

in awe the town stared

Fear could not get through the warmth

that grew inside him
